The seminar introduces various national funding bodies and their thematic focus. The overview is particularly suitable for researchers who have little or no experience in applying for third-party funding. In addition to the major funding organizations such as the DFG, the BMBF and the DAAD, foundations will also be presented.

The Division 7 Research Management of the University of Cologne is organising an online workshop on the current calls for ERC Starting and Consolidator Grants in Horizon Europe in cooperation with the ERC National Contact Point.

Founded in 2007, the European Research Council (ERC) is the most important European funding organisation for excellent frontier research. It supports researchers two to twelve years after the PhD who wish to establish or consolidate their own junior research group.

The workshop will be opened by Prof. Dr. Claus Cursiefen, Vice-Rector for Research. Afterwards, the staff from Department 74 International Funding, Department 75 Transfer, the Competence Center for Research Data Management (C³RDM) and the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Medicine will present their services. Then, Isabel Herzhoff from the National Contact Point ERC will give an overview of the current calls for proposals and tips on how to apply. ERC Starting Grantee Prof. Dr. Pia Pinger from the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences and Prof. Dr. Malte Gather (Humboldt Centre for Nano- and Biophotonics), ERC Panel Member, will give useful tips on preparing an ERC proposal. Finally, the staff of Department 74 International Funding and the Dean's Office ot the Faculty of Medicine will offer a Q&A session.

The online workshop will be held in English.
