Semesterticket and digital student ID card
With the introduction of the digital Deutschlandsemesterticket, the semester ticket will be made available to you in digital form. The Deutschlandsemesterticket must now be accessed via the Ride website. You can then use the Deutschlandsemesterticket with the familiar Wallet apps or via the Ride website. The Deutschlandsemesterticket is only valid in digital form and may not be printed out. At a ticket inspection, the ticket will only be accepted in digital form. A screenshot is also not permitted.
This means that from 01.04.2024, you will only be entitled to use buses and trains with the digital Deutschlandsemesterticket and an official photo ID. The semester ticket on your UCCard will be deleted on 01.04.2024 and the UCCard will be blocked.
The certificate of enrolment provided for this purpose is always available in KLIPS 2.0 as proof of enrolment. You will find your student ID on the second page of the certificate of enrollment. You have the option of showing the certificate of enrolment and student ID on a mobile device or using them as a printout.
Semesterticket
Important note:
Please open the ride link directly in the browser of your digital device if you want to load the ticket into your wallet. If you use an app that is not supported by the University of Cologne (e.g. Studo, etc.), the download to the Wallet will not work.
The contractual partners of the Deutschlandsemesterticket are the AStA of the University of Cologne and the KVB. The semester ticket support provides the FAQ page for the AStA and is responsible for forwarding inquiries to the ticket provider 'Ride' or clarifying an EBE, as well as clarifying technical difficulties and inquiries for which access to the enrolment status is required.
FAQs and important information about the semester ticket
FAQ: General information about the Deutschlandsemesterticket
How do I get the digital semester ticket?
The digital 'Deutschlandsemesterticket' will be provided as a link by the provider 'Digital H' approximately four weeks before the start of the semester after successful re-registration / enrollment. The University of Cologne (UzK) will send you a link to download and activate the ticket to your e-mail address. Please make sure you log in with your KLIPS access (uniKIM) via Shibboleth to download the ticket. You can then download your ticket to your wallet on your smartphone, tablet, laptop or smart watch.
Unfortunately, a PDF ticket is not available for legal reasons. A screenshot is also not permitted. It is no longer possible to use the semester ticket as a ticket-to-print version - nationwide for all universities that offer the Deutschlandsemesterticket. If you have any questions about this, please contact the AStA of the UzK.
Important: You must generate the digital semester ticket again for each new semester, update it in the Wallet app or download it.
Do not use your basic account/applicant account or staff account - no semester ticket is stored here.
What do I have to consider as a first semester student or newly enrolled student?
The following applies to first semester students and new enrolments (regular enrolment):
You can also only access the ticket from the time we send the info e-mail to your S-Mail account 2 weeks before the start of the semester! In any case, please do not try to access your ticket until the day after enrollment at the earliest, as otherwise a technical error may occur with your ticket.
The following applies to first-time and new registrations during the semester already in progress (e.g. PhD):
You can only retrieve your Deutschlandsemesterticket the day after you have successfully enrolled/re-enrolled. In any case, please do not attempt to access it until the day after you have successfully enrolled/re-enrolled at the earliest, as otherwise a technical error may occur with your ticket.
Do I need the Internet to retrieve my ticket?
Your ticket can only be accessed via the web link with an internet connection. If you have loaded the ticket into your Apple or Google Wallet app with an internet connection, you do not need an internet connection for a check.
What is a web ticket? What is a wallet?
A web ticket is displayed directly in the browser (e.g. Google Chrome or Firefox) and can be saved on the home screen of the smartphone. A web ticket can only be displayed if there is an internet connection. We therefore recommend saving it in a so-called "wallet".
A wallet is a storage location for digital tickets, such as boarding passes, public transport tickets or concert tickets.
How do I install a wallet?
Many smartphones have a wallet installed by default, e.g. iPhones. On Android smartphones, there are several wallet apps that can be used. We recommend Google Wallet, which can be downloaded free of charge from the Google Play Store.
How do I access the wallet?
The Wallet can be found like any other app on one of your home screens or in the menu (app drawer).
How does the ticket get into the Wallet?
After applying for the SemesterTicket upgrade, you will find the note "Download to Apple Wallet" or "Download to Google Wallet" under the valid ticket. The prerequisite is the installation of a Wallet on the smartphone. The import of the ticket is structured slightly differently for each wallet.
What do I have to do if I change my name?
Firstly, the name change must be carried out by the Registrar's Office in Klips 2.0. Please write an e-mail or come by in person.
After the name change in the system, the semester ticket with the new name will be made available to you the next day, while your previous ticket will be automatically cancelled and will no longer be valid. For this purpose, you will receive another e-mail (from: ride-ticketing) from our service provider to your e-mail address with a link to activate the ticket with the new name.
The fact that the cancelled ticket (with your old name) is displayed next to the active ticket is normal and serves to make it clear that a ticket saved under the old name can no longer be used in wallet apps and that the ticket with the new name must be inserted into the wallet apps.
What do I have to consider after returning from a semester contribution-free leave of absence?
After returning from a semester contribution-free leave of absence, you must access the link via your S-Mail as usual at the start of the new semester, log in via Shibboleth and retrieve the semester ticket and load it into your wallet, for example.
What do I have to consider after a temporary/unintentional de-registration?
If you were exmatriculated temporarily/unintentionally (e.g. due to late payment of the semester fee), you must call up the semester ticket again via the link in your S-Mail after the exmatriculation has been canceled and you have been re-registered, log in via Shibboleth and retrieve the ticket again and download it to your wallet if you wish.
FAQ: Validity, regulations and conditions of the Deutschlandsemesterticket
When is my ticket valid?
The Deutschlandsemesterticket is valid in the following periods:
- for a summer semester from 01.04. at 0:00 a.m. to 30.09. at 23:59 p.m.
- for a winter semester from 01.10. at 0:00 a.m. to 31.03. at 11:59 p.m.
In the event of immediate de-registration during the current semester, the ticket will be deleted on the following day.
You may be shown several tickets (e.g. for the previous semester, current semester and/or the coming semester). Please note that you should always use the ticket with the currently valid period and also integrate it into apps, for example.
In which area is my ticket valid?
With the change to the digital semester ticket, the ticket model has changed: Your semester ticket is based on the Deutschlandticket for students. Wherever the Deutschlandticket is valid, the Semesterticket is also recognized. This means you can use your digital ticket on participating regional transport throughout Germany. Further information can be found on the AStA website.
Do I need the Internet to retrieve my ticket?
Your ticket can only be accessed via the web link with an internet connection. If you have loaded the ticket into your Apple or Google Wallet app with an internet connection, you do not need an internet connection for a check.
Are the take-away regulations changing?
With the introduction of the Deutschlandsemesterticket in summer semester 2024, the regulations for taking the semester ticket with you will no longer apply. This means that NO people or bicycles can be taken along with the semester ticket!
Only the rental of KVB bicycles is still possible.
How can I hire KVB bikes?
How do I register with KVB-Rad and take advantage of the 30-minute free ride/rental?
Register at https://www.kvb-rad.de/koeln/de/ or in the Nextbike app by entering your S-Mail address. In addition to your six-digit PIN for your customer account, which you will receive as a text message, Nextbike will send a confirmation link to your S-Mail address. After successful verification, the free ride option will be assigned to your account. This discount is valid for the semester in which it was activated until two weeks after the end of the semester. Further information can be found at: https://www.kvb-rad.de/koeln/de/campusbike/.
I am already registered with KVB-Rad. How can I continue to take advantage of the 30-minute free ride/rental?
Open your customer account at https://www.kvb-rad.de/koeln/de/ or in the Nextbike app by entering your cell phone number and the six-digit PIN. Enter your S-Mail address under "Profile" and save the data. Once the email address has been successfully verified, the free ride option will be assigned to your account. This discount is valid for the semester in which it was activated until two weeks after the end of the semester. Further information can be found at: https://www.kvb-rad.de/koeln/de/campusbike/.
Do I need an ID card?
Yes, the ticket is only valid with an official photo ID (e.g. identity card, driving license, passport, etc.). If you are unable to show your ID at the ticket inspection, you will have to pay the full increased fare of €60, as this is a personal ticket. It is not possible to show proof of identity.
FAQ: Problems with the Deutschlandsemesterticket
Why did I not receive an e-mail?
-
First check in Klips 2.0 whether you are correctly enrolled or re-registered (including the booking of your semester payment).
-
Check whether your mailbox may be full. If this is the case, the e-mail cannot be delivered properly.
-
Also check your spam folder.
-
Check whether you may have initiated an outdated forwarding of your e-mail address to another e-mail address. If this is the case, update the e-mail address when forwarding.
If you continue to have problems activating your ticket, please contact the semesterticket support: Contactformular or semesterticket-support@uni-koeln.de
I cannot access my ticket / no ticket is displayed - what should I do?
If you have problems accessing the ticket, please first go through the following points on the checklist and try again:
- You are using your activated student account (not the basic or staff account)
- You are regularly enrolled and re-registered (not on semester fee-free leave of absence or exmatriculated)
- You are using a current operating system that still receives the latest updates
- Delete the history and cookies
- Try using a different browser
If you still do not see a ticket after checking and completing these points, please contact us via our contact form or by email at: semesterticket-support@uni-koeln.de
We will then forward your request to the ticket service provider if necessary.
My ticket could not be read. But I am registered. What should I do?
Delete the old or non-functioning ticket from the Wallet app and download the ticket again in the Wallet app. If the new ticket does not work either, please contact us via the contact form or our support address (semesterticket-support@uni-koeln.de). Your request may be forwarded to other departments.
I forgot my ticket (the smartphone), do I have to pay 60€ now?
Usually not. If you use the EBE online portal in good time, you only pay a processing fee of approx. 7€.
I have received an EBE (Erhöhtes Beförderungsentgeld) and am now supposed to pay €60. What can I do about this?
Please use the contact form or our support address (semesterticket-support@uni-koeln.de) to get in touch with us. If we cannot find an error in your enrollment status, your request may first be forwarded to second-level support. As soon as you have a valid ticket again, you can process the EBE via the EBE online portal.
I don't own a mobile device...
If you do not have a mobile device, please contact the AStA of the University of Cologne: kontakt@asta.uni-koeln.de
FAQ: Further information on the Deutschlandsemesterticket
I don't need the ticket. Can I cancel the semester ticket?
No! In principle, all students are obliged to purchase a semester ticket. The transfer of the semester fee is mandatory for re-registration. In some cases, however, it is possible to have the mobility fee already paid refunded by the AStA.
Can I pass on the ticket if I don't need it myself?
No! Your ticket may not be passed on to anyone else, as it is only valid for you personally.
What do I do with the old UCCard?
You can cut through the old UCCard and dispose of it. The chip is located in the top right-hand corner.
Why are there these changes? Who is responsible for the Deutschlandsemesterticket?
The AStA elected by you of the University of Cologne is the contractual partner of the KVB and has negotiated the semester ticket contracts, as the old contracts between AStA and KVB expired in 2024. In addition, the federal and state governments agreed on a cheaper Deutschlandticket for students at the end of November 2023. The uniform nationwide introduction of the Deutschlandticket for students will reduce the cost of the semester ticket for students. In addition, the federal government is planning the Deutschlandticket for students exclusively as a digital ticket. This dematerialization will make the ticket much more sustainable.
If you have any further questions, criticism or suggestions regarding the Deutschlandticket, please contact the AStA of the University of Cologne directly: https://www.asta.uni-koeln.de
Student ID card & library function
With the changes from 01.04.2024, the UCCard will also no longer serve as a visual ID or library card. Instead, you can download the student ID in KLIPS 2.0 (certificate of enrolment).
How do I get my student ID?
Since the summer semester 2024, the student ID card has been available in digital form. You can download it via Klips 2.0 under the "Certificates" icon. The student ID can be found on page 2 of the certificate of enrolment and can be printed out.
Please note that the student ID - like the certificate of enrolment - is only displayed for the current semester and must be downloaded or photographed each semester.
How do I get access to the University Library (USB)?
The library card will also be made available digitally from 01.04.2024 - via a central portal and the 'meineUSB' app. Information on this can be found on the USB website. Until then (including 31.03.2024), the barcode on the UCCard will continue to work.
How do I pay in the canteen?
Since March 2023, you can only pay at the checkouts in all canteens, bistros and coffee bars using a debit, credit or credit card, Google Pay or Apple Pay. For verification purposes, the new student ID can be presented on the 2nd page of the certificate of enrolment.
All information on the changeover of the payment system can be found on the KStW website.
What serves as an audit certificate?
A current certificate of enrolment in combination with your identity card will continue to serve as proof of enrolment. The new digital printable student ID on page 2 of the certificate of enrolment (from SoSe24) can also be presented in combination with your ID card. However, if you want to be sure, please always consult your examination office.
